Brotherhood of Mutants

The Brotherhood is one of the strongest alliances of mutants in western North America. Ever a breeding ground for oddities, the lands of what was once Southern California has teemed with mutants of various kinds since shortly after the Fall. It is from this region that the Hell Riders and Vagans fueled their mutant slave trade for generations, until a clever gladiator-slave named Thoraxes escaped from the Vagan pits and became a freedom fighter, uniting the scattered bands of his brethren. Thoraxes created the Brotherhood and its underlying philosophy that Mutants are the true inheritors of Terranu, the Changed Earth, and that humanity sacrificed its own bid to ascendancy in the fires of earlier wars.

Now, a generation later, the Brotherhood is strong, and they have embraced the destiny imparted to them by their founder. Though still considered barbarous and uncivilized by most Humans, the Brotherhood’s armies have successfully curbed the slavers and have fended off incursions from the Vagans and the Hell Riders. Recently, they have bumped heads with the Silics in the north over oil resources and have even beaten the technologically superior nation in several key battles. What the Brotherhood lacks in technology they make up for in natural abilities and ferocity.

Brotherhood philosophy does not teach that Humans are universal enemies, but most Brotherhood members believe it implicitly, and this has increased tensions between unaligned Mutants and their Human neighbors in many mixed Outland settlements, with Humans seeing Brotherhood spies and insurgents behind every red glowing eye.
