The Republic to those that live there and simply called the Silics (sihl-icks) to most others.
Protectors of scientific and engineering knowledge, the Silics are the descendants of Pre-Fall Silicon Valley technologists and a National Guard unit that sealed themselves in a vast underground bunker in the later years of the Doomsday War. Their subterranean redoubt protected them from the terrible ravages of the Fall, and generations later the Silics emerged to find a changed land.
Combining technical know-how with the regimented caste system of a military hierarchy, the Silics attempt to bring order to the Outlands. The Silics have rapidly spread their influence along the northern shores of the Frisco Sea, and what they lack in flexibility they make up for in technological superiority and single-minded devotion to the rebuilding of an ordered society.
The Silics' strict adherence to their New Order has brought them into conflict with many others that would maintain their autonomy. The Silics have fought countless skirmishes and battles with the Jeffersonians in the north, the Vagans in the southeast, and most recently with the Brotherhood of Mutants in the south. Their grudging support of the Free Traders and their opposition to drug and slave trades has also brought them into conflict with the freewheeling Hell Riders.
Dozens of Outland villages are now claimed by the Silicon Republic, and their protection of these enclaves has allowed several to prosper and expand into sizeable towns where vehicles and electricity are no longer wonders of a forgotten past. Underneath the creased uniforms and polished armor lies the uncompromising adherence to science, law, and order.
